This free tool calculates the list of postal codes within a given radius around a store, branch or point of sale — useful for defining a catchment area, a delivery zone or a prospecting area. Two modes are available: search around a single postal code, or import an Excel/CSV file containing several addresses.

How to calculate a catchment area using postal codes

A catchment area is the set of postal codes located within a given distance (in km) of a store, branch or address. With this tool, enter your reference postal code and the desired radius: the tool calculates the straight-line distance between the centroid of each postal code and the centroid of your reference point, then returns the sorted list of postal codes within that radius, along with their distance. It's a quick way to estimate a catchment area, a delivery zone or a sales prospecting area.

Why use the Excel / CSV file import?

If you manage several stores, branches or points of sale, importing an Excel or CSV file lets you calculate the catchment area for each address in a single pass. Each row in your file (one store = one row) generates one result row per postal code found within the chosen radius, along with its distance. The "avoid duplicates" option assigns each postal code to the closest address when zones overlap — ideal for splitting a sales territory between several locations without duplicates.

Frequently asked questions

How is the distance between postal codes calculated?

Distance is calculated as the crow flies (Haversine formula) between the centroids (central point) of each postal code. It may therefore differ from the actual road distance, which depends on the road network.

Does the radius correspond to a driving time?

No. The radius is a straight-line geographic distance, not a travel time. Depending on the road network, terrain or traffic, the actual time needed to cover this distance may vary.
